Hsuan Hua

Hsuan Hua (Chinese: 宣化, meaning proclaim and transform; April 16, 1918 – June 7, 1995), is a Chan Meditation Master (the ninth lineage holder of Guiyang school of Chan in China), and a contributing figure in bringing Chinese Buddhism to the Western Countries in the 20th century.

宣化上人(1918.4.26 - 1995.6.7),接虛雲老和尚法脈,是禪宗溈仰宗第九代祖師,為釋迦牟尼佛傳承的第四十六代。一九六二年,上人將佛教傳入西方世界,一生致力於弘法、譯經、教育,並在一九七六年於美國舊金山創立了萬佛聖城。上人鼓勵弟子要多坐禪,念佛和研究經典,尤其是楞嚴經和華嚴經。
